Destinations Booksellers, founded in 2004 by proprietor Randy Smith, is Southeast Indiana's full-service independent general bookstore.
Located in the East Spring historic district of New Albany, Ind., Destinations strives to be a place where ideas are exchanged, whether that be through books or by way of the events we sponsor.
While the store has an extensive selection of books in all genres, no store can have everything. Should we be out of stock on the book you desire, we can, in most cases, get the book here within a day or two at no additional charge.
Enjoy your favorite novels with a premium blend of coffee brewed fresh from locally roasted beans. The Dueling Grounds Cafe offers a wide rage of coffee drinks, as well as gourmet soups and sandwiches.
Destinations Booksellers Is IndieBound
IndieBound is a unique, community-oriented movement shaped by the American Booksellers Association that celebrates independent bookstores and promotes shopping locally. When you shop locally, you are:
Supporting local economies For every $100 you spend at one of our local businesses, $68 will stay in the community. What happens when you spend that same $100 at a national chain? Only $43 stays in the community.
Creating local jobs Local businesses are better at creating higher-paying jobs for our neighbors.
Conserving tax dollars Shopping in a local business district means less infrastructure, less maintenance, and more money available to beautify our community. Also, spending locally instead of online ensures that sales taxes are reinvested where they belong—in your community.
Reducing environmental impact Buying from a local business conserves energy and resources in the form of less fuel for transportation, less packaging, and products that you know are safe and well made, because your local retailers stand behind them.
Investing in entrepreneurship Creativity and entrepreneurship are what the American economy is founded upon. Nurturing local business ensures a strong community.
Embracing enthusiasm and expertise Local retailers are your friends and neighbors, and have a vested interest in knowing how to serve you. More importantly, they’re absolutely passionate about what they do. Why not take advantage of it?
Nurturing community Besides the obvious personal impact of knowing (and loving) your local retailers, studies have shown that local businesses donate to community causes at more than twice the rate of chains.
Creating more choice Local businesses carry a wider array of unique products because they buy for their own individual market—the people in their community. They know you and know what you like and want.
Fostering uniqueness You wouldn’t want your house to look like everyone else’s in the U.S. So why would you want your community to look that way? More diversity in your community only enhances its appeal.
Making your community a destination The more interesting and unique a community, the more they will attract new neighbors, visitors and guests. This benefits everyone!
