Andrea Gilbey, author of Bottletops for Battleships: Sylvie’s War, will grace us with a visit to the store on Tuesday, April 19, at 6 p.m. Gilbey, from Cheshunt, Hertfordshire, just north of London, will discuss the stories behind the book during this special dinnertime event, co-hosted by Taco Steve and Arts Along the Ohio.
The novel, aimed at readers aged 8 to 12, follows an ordinary family through Britain’s most compelling time, the struggle for survival during World War II. Centering on Sylvie, four going on five years old, is about to start school just as England and its allies are drawn into what will become a global war against fascism. The dangers and the shortages of wartime Britain are brought to vivid life through the eyes of this young girl.
This story, for children aged eight to twelve, follows an ordinary family through one of the biggest events in the history of Twentieth Century Britain. Adults are encouraged to bring the children in their lives to hear this story of courage and history. Gilbey will sign copies of her latest book after the event.
Taco Steve will be offering regular dinner service throughout the evening.
